I have a couple of (presumably) Kirkby Mk2’s Deluxes that do not have any ‘year’ stamps at all – both numbered though – 72924 and (what looks like) 63091 7

The frame numbers are fairly simple, from memory so please forgive
    anything I miss!
There were three factories plus the S works that produced F-
frames .The first was at Kirkby and these feature a K plus the year
ie. K65 on one side of the seat clamp and six digits on the other
side, the first two being the week number and the next four being
the frame produced that week. As these were made in batches and
perhaps not rotated stock wise this is a fairly rough guide only,
but the year should hopefully be correct!

Bradford built bikes usually have eight digits one one side of the
seat clamp..the first two being the year, the second two being the
week number and the last four… the frame produced that week..see it
    really is simple!
“S” numbers are similar to Bradford, but stamped much cleaner and
    straighter.
Oh and forgot the other factory at Nottingham but nobody understands
    their system?

    Hi Ken
Ian’s Deluxes don’t seem to conform to the numbering system you’ve described. One has 6 digits and the other has 5 and both have no “year” stamps. I suppose the 5 digit one could have been made in the seventh week and was the two thousand, nine hundred and twenty-fourth produced that week; perhaps they just stamped 7 rather than 07.
The sixth digit one is more difficult to interpret as obviously there are not 63 weeks in a year. Could this one have been made by Raleigh?

    Have a look for yourself

    72924 – http://tinyurl.com/9flo2hd
    and
    63091 7- http://tinyurl.com/8rfeqya

(If you use the arrows on the pictures to look through the albums you’ll find the blank sides of the seat tubes too!)

Is it my imagination or do I detect a 3 before the 7?

There are of course variations to the formula…like the story that moulton numbers were inflated to confuse raleigh !

I wonder if mine are Raleigh built? Hence the lack of Bradford or Kirkby nomenclature?
