As a fairly recent convert to Moultoneering, I have been loving my time on my AM8, but seem to have endless problems with the chain coming off and this morning it jammed solid and sent me over the bars at 20+ mph!
I need to get the problem sorted before I ride the bike again and was wondering if I might have the wrong spec chain? Please can somebody tell me what new chain I should buy for an AM8, so that I can at least rule that out? Many thanks in advance.
P.S. The bike is serial number 994901, if that is any help? Does that mean it’s a 1989 model, as I thought the AM models had ceased production by 1999?

Some AMs are still being made. Not heard of an AM8 though.

The factory was selling neat little chain catchers for AMs that behaved similarly to front derailleurs.

    Thanks Dave
A device to keep the chain on sounds like a good idea! I’m still keen to confirm the spec of chain required though…

Without looking at it, it is difficult to diagnose the problem. In general, any 8sp chain will behave similarly. Long teeth on the chainring are noticeably better for retaining the chain than the trimmed and shaped chainrings designed for faster shifting.

yes I have the same problem with my tsr 30 the stronglight crank looks a right mess now,it does not seem to make much difference how much I adjust the front ,the chain still comes of every now and then.
