assuming they’re made of rubber/nylon you could try powerflex who make polyurethane bushes for cars, they might have made the originals or they might make a special if you can give them the dimensions.if they’re metal like phospher bronze a local engineering workshop should be able to knock some up, again they’d need the dimensions.

i don’t know how old this bike is but it does seem a poor show you can’t get such a basic part for it

The APB has been out of production for perhaps a decade. It isn’t too surprising that APB-specific spares are drying up.

Should the MBC be looking at getting a batch of these bushes made up?

looking at the price of fudges moulton 20 inch rims they’re about 45 quid each and 180 if built into a wheel, in halfords you can buy a 20 inch rim wheel for about 25 quid for a bmx (front) and the tyres will fit, can anyone tell me if they are that much better?

‘BMX” (20×1.75) are not the same size rims as the 406 the Moulton comes with originally. Using them might (I don’t know, I’m not going to bother to try) require changes to your brakes and will need new tyres and tubes obviously.

i have a newish folding bike with 20 inch wheels and it had ridiculous 20×2.25 tyres on, i was surprised that a 20×1.5 tyre fitted the same rim, not sure what the moulton tyre is but i have one coming this week ,i will try it. the bmx rims must be quite good considering what kids do on them

Des–I spoke to Fudgescycles and they are out of stock–they are going to call Pashley and get back to me..(they’ll get the same answer I got from Pashley I reckon!)
Dave Minter–I’m going to explore this route–I’ll keep you in the loop–worth getting a bunch made up as I have 2 old APB frames..
David James– re BMX wheels–I had some 20″ rims made up–I’ll get the spec as it was a few years ago..they look great on the APB frame..

i got the moulton tyre this morning it’s secondhand but nearly new as i didn’t want to buy a new one and it was no use, it will fit the rim on the bike but says “mount only on hooked rims” it is a continental sport contact, if anyone knows if the hooked rims are just for sport i would be grateful

Virtually all aluminium rims (made in the last 20 years or more) have hooked beads.

that’s nice to know thanks, hoping to get a pylon model later this year would be using every day (about 24 miles) but the wheel prices £180 built would be a big dent in the economics

I’m making up a set of Moulton bushes this week. The ID is 1/2″, OD is 5/8″, length is 1″ with the lip OD 3/4″. I’ll post a photo here if it works out.
You should be able to get a machine shop to modify a set set of 1/2″ x 3/4″ x 1″ bushes to match the originals.

I made up a new axle last night from 4140 steel, although I’m looking at changing the design to have an internal thread on the axle and a bolt in from each side.
