    Hello,
After a period of lapsed membership, I’ve come back to the fold, so forgive me if I’m behind on some of the topics.
Having found to my dismay that Capreo cassettes and freehub bodies are now extinct or at best grossly over-priced on e-bay, I found that the make Sunrace produce 9-28 9 speed cassettes and hub bodies, all compatible with the Capreo hubs (reference CSS90 9NS 9-28T).
However, after much asking around, it seems that no-one stocks them or imports them ! Even Avon Vally cyclery were not able to have them since the supplier reckoned that the demand would be too low…
Is there any means of trying to persuade the importer to sell a batch or make them available through the Moulton company for example ?
Hoping to prolonge the service life of my AM18…
    All the best
    Simon

    Have you tried Southern Distributors?

Does anyone have any experience fitting one of the Sunrace cassettes, either 10 or 11 speed, on a Capreo hub/cassette body within 130mm spacing?

The sprocket sizes of both the Sunrace 9-32t and 9-36t 11 speed cassettes suspiciously match the current Moulton cassettes exactly; although the Moulton cassettes fit a “modified (lengthened) version of the Shimano Capreo type”.

Ask at the Traditional Cycle shop ( traditionalcycleshop.co.uk ) using the moulton spares request form and they can supply a capreo cassette 9-28t for £65

I’ve seen the Sunrace catalogue you reference but also no joy on sourcing any thing or getting any reply from them.

possibly you should consider sticking a hub gear on your AM..
there are plenty to choose from.
The 8 speed Sturmey Archer internally geared hub is designed for small wheel Bicycles.
Its quite easy to fit this to an Old AM as the OLD is very close to the smaller dropout specifications of the old AMS.
another possibility is the 3 speed Sturmer Archer CS-RF3 internal geared hub with a mount so you can attach an 8,9 or 10 speed cassette.
This is similar to the SRAM Dual Drive concept.
alternatively, you could go for a Shimano Alfine 8 or 11 speed or for a 14 speed Rohloff Speedhub.
There is even another 14 speed internally geared hub called the Kindernay from Scandinavia..
It sounds as if you already have 2 chainrings on your AM so adding an internal geared hub
especially if you have an 11 or 14 speed hub will Certainly give you enough gears.
the 8 Speed Sturmey Archer internal geared hub is very, very affordable indeed.
adding a hub gear of some sort to your AM is a Very Good shout

    Hello,
I’ve been a little lazy in responding to various replies so I would like to say a big thanks for all your help. I did finally get a Capreo replacement cassette through the Moulton company oddly enough so I guess I’m OK for a little while yet.
I’ve taken careful note of Neill’s remarks on the hub gears and will keep that in mind for when I finally get fed up with replacing cheap 9 speed Shimanon trigger shifters… So much plastic that they’ve almost become a throw-away item compared to the older versions.
    All the best,
    Simon
