used some chrome paint recently on a front steel chromed wheel where the chrome was rusted (on the inner wide surface) and was impressed just how good a match it was to the original chrome, obviously no good on the sidewalls but then the brake blocks should keep this clean if used regularly (like a car disc brake), it would seem to be a cost effective way of restoring handlebars, stems, mudguards, brake calipers/levers etc without the need for having them put out to a chroming works (i was quoted £40 for a wheel rim and it would have to be stripped and rebuilt into the wheel).if anyone has any recommendations as to type/make of paint/undercoat etc it could be useful

    David,
I have used the Simoniz stuff with reasonably good effect on some wheel trims.

thanks for that les i will have to try some, not sure why any sane person would want spray on rust though? bit like the spray on mud for chelsea tractors!

its for the ratrod look, custom builders out there who don’t like polished and shiny, so rust and patina is in, easiest way to make something look old without actually being old or letting something rust on purpose!
