Can anybody tell me how to cure a persistent creak on my TSR? I’m pretty sure it’s the rear squashball. The loudest creak is when pedalling as my weight shifts slightly; bouncing it does provoke a creak though not so loud.

I don’t know if this will really help but the worst creak I get comes from my saddle. If I stand up and pedal it stops.

The worst one I had came from my cycling shoes.

Thanks for the hints Stan and Alex. I’ll keep on investigating.

Progress! After eliminating shoes, saddle, and chain I decided it might be the rear suspension triangle pivot. This morning I slackened the bolt, took the nut off and forced some grease between the forks and the ends of the pivot bush. I’m pleased to report the quietest climb back up the hill from town in months. Still not silent, but I guess it may take a few miles for the grease to get over the whole of the rubbing faces.

Pleased to hear that you seem to have it sorted. Do you think you would have achieved the same outcome by sqeezing some grease into the inners through the grease nipple?

I did try putting grease in through the grease nipple, to be sure that the bottom bracket was not creaking. I don’t think the nipple feeds through to the pivot bolt though, and it apears that the noise was coming from outside the pivot, where the lug at the end of the triangle bears agains the end of the bush. I also got grease between the washer under the bolt head and the lug on that side.

Oops! Ignore much of the last post, written when I wasn’t thinking straight. I had wondered if the bottom bracket was the source of the noise, and had decided to tackle it if greasing the ends of the pivot bolt didn’t work. I thought the ends of the bush might be the source after trying to grease the pivot via the nipple.

    Hope that makes sense.

Thanks for the tip! I also had problems with my TSR creaking. I’ve been through the whole bike and greased everything, seat post, frame separation hinge etc. just left the BB and rear pivot hinge since I really don’t have the space in my apartment to do serious bike maintenance and at the moment it’s been too cold to work outdoors. Today i finally had enough and loosened the rear hinge bolt and greased the washers and bolt and voila! Silence!
