I folks. I have a TSR 30, and it is marvellous. This may have been aired elsewhere but I would be interested in people’s views. I have been reading about rim wear on small wheeled bicycles, and I have also seen articles written by people who modify their Moultons to take disc brakes.

My question is do the Moulton Bicycle Co consider disc brakes to be a good idea, and if they do, I wonder why they don’t fit them or offer some sort of retro fitting for earlier models?Regards

David Wilson, among others, has fitted disc brakes to his Moulton. I’ve ridden his bike bike and it’s a brilliant modification; no brake dive and very powerful. I seem to remember AM not being too keen on the idea of discs for some reason. It’s a modification I’d seriously consider if I ever get to own a TSR.

Is there a write up of the modification of disc brakes to the Moulton?

I’m hoping there will be Keith; David Wilson has engineered a very elegant solution and Ian Kew has a great drum brake conversion too. I’ve ridden both and they work perfectly, far less brake dive than my V-braked TSR!

A lot of advice on this recommends frames made or adapted with lugs to take the calipers. There do seem to be some methods of attaching calipers on a bike which does not have these.

    This page discusses this.

You need hubs which can take disks. I’ve not been able to find any disk friendly hubs with the 28 holes you need for 16″ rims but 20″ rims have more options. Good luck.

Hope Pro2 Evo are 28h disk suitable front hubs aren’t they? I was looking at them before I plumped for my drum conversion on the TSR.

Ian, you’re right. I found these,

They look very good but they are three times the price of a Shimano 32 hole disc brake hub. Still, I suppose that if it saves the rims from wear it could be worth it.

I’m wondering if any more information has surfaced about fitting disc brakes to something like a TSR30 ?
