I have finally started on my own retirement project to refurbish my 1965 Moulton Standard.I originally picked it up 10 years ago in York and took it home to London riding on the way(so it did work !!).Over the years I dismantled it and cleaned it (Looked like it was never dismantled or cleaned before). So now I am reassembling the steerer tube and note that the internal components saved are not as shown in the cross section shown in Tony Hadlands book.
Could it be that not all Moultons were assembled in that way ?

    Any comments are welcomed

Post a picture of what you have.

There is a guide to the forks here.

You have not dismantled the fork completely there. I will presume that the internals are still complete and assembled correctly but there really is no way to tell from that.

You seem to be missing the spring abutment (that holds the spring in place in the forks) and the bellows retaining cup (that the brake bolt would also pass through when securing the spring into the forks). I can’t tell from the picture but your bottom bearing retaining ring (at the bottom of the steering column) looks a bit odd.

The long bolt and two things above the fork picture are not related to the fork.

I suspect (but cannot tell from the picture) that the forks have been dismantled and reassembled incorrectly (you could not get the bellows off easily without doing that. More pictures needed – pull the steering column up, does it come off?

    Hello Ian
Many thanks for your reply and for the “light bulb moment” for not realising it was only partly dismantled.(Doh !!)It has taken me time to respond as I had to get a extra long screwdriver to remove the Phillips headed screw which I have now done.Checking with the cross section in TH’s book,it seems I am missing the Brake Bush.
I am also not sure about the Spring Abutment(isnt it the round metal thing in the photo next to the screw as it fits on the end of the compression rubber column?) and the Rebound Stop (not sure what that looks like).

Ian..I have to thank you.Of course I should have checked You Tube before I asked all those questions but now I am much happier with what I have and know. The video was great and I am now ready to clean, grease and put back together.
The only differences with mine seems to be
    1. the bellows retaining cup which has no lugs and seems to have been permanently connected to the fork crown at some stage
2.I am sure I have a rebound stop(not shown in the video but shown on the cross section).I will see if it fits when I put it all back together
Anyway thanks for all your help

OK so I have now reassembled the front fork.I have used 1/8” ball bearings in the upper ball race but smaller bearings in the bottom race.Is this correct as everything seems fine but I can see the top bearings when everything is fixed.
    Does this sound correct?
