Hi All, I recently inherited an AM7 … it has a haphazard 14 speed modification on it and I am in the process of restoring it to the original AM7 configuration.
It has a large chainring size 53T on it. Can someone please tell me what the original or recommended ratio is ? 56T ? And the ratio for the rear cluster too please. Much appreciated, thank you,
    Cas

I have an elderly AM2 and AM7 brochure which is not dated but I think it dates from the mid 1980s.

Experts may be able to pinpoint the period of the brochure from the list of models described.

    The brochure includes the AM2 (Town) , AM7 (Country), AM14S(Sport) and AM14T(Town/Touring).
    As to the gearing:
Some quotations copied verbatim directly from the brochure, :
    “AM7(Country) has a 7-step deraileur giving a 3:1 range on a single chainwheel”

“Gear ratios with the standard 52T chainwheel and Regina block, range from 31.5 to 88.4 with the 10T special Alex Moulton top sprocket. 9T is an available alternative producing a top gear of 98.4.”
    Hope this answers your question

    Hello Pandora,

Thank you very much for the information, it is most helpful. The existing chainring is a 53T and feels too big.
    Kind regards,
