    Hi everyone,
Recently I became very interested in Moultons, especially the series 1 and 2. I really like the aesthetics of the straight line from the headtube to the rear axle.
So, I took a gamble on a series 1 Stowaway on ebay for £122 and it arrived today. So far I think I may have got a decent enough deal. The rear forks don’t have the crack that I have heard about but they haven’t had the modification to prevent the torsion from cracking them.

    So, the good:
    1) It was fairly cheap and the seller was willing to send to Norway for a reasonable price.
    2) The rear fork is intact
    And the bad:
    1) It looks like it has spent a fair bit of time stored outside so there is a lot of rust. Hopefully it’s just on the surface but we’ll see.
    2) The suspension block rubber has separated from the metal backing plate.
I haven’t had much time to have a proper look at it yet but once the baby is in bed and I can get out to the garage I plan to start stripping it down and cleaning it up to have a proper inspection.

My first questions (of which I’m sure there will be many):
    1) What is the seatpost size? I used my verynear calliper but the rust inside the seatpost made it difficult to see exactly. I made it 25.4mm.
    2) What is the best adhesive to re-attach to rubber to the metal plate on the suspension block?
I can’t wait to get started!

    Hi John.

we are in a similar situation – see thread titled ‘Proud of my new old Moulton’ about 6 threads behind your entry. I would love to keep in touch with you as you progress your upgrade and swap ideas and thoughts as we go.

I am not into keeping it to the original and will replace the wheel rims / spokes, seatpost and seat as they are a bit dilapidated., I will also have it stripped and powder coated for around £50. Have a look at my thread with piccies. I would be interested to know what plans you have with your mark 1.
