    I have, I’m told, a 1985 moulton am 7.
    It’s in need of restoration.
The frame seems to have been painted in a dark blue, almost black.
Is it possible to get that paint anywhere. I could paint it a completely different colour or even have it chromed….would this ruin the value though, it it has any.
Is it possible to get spares to bring the bike back to a good standard.
    Cheers

i was quoted 50 quid to have one 16 inch rim chromed, i should think a frame cost would equal the national debt

I live in the USA so it may be different for you. If you want to keep it original, which is probably the safest way to ensure it keeps it’s value, here I would go to an automotive paint supplier. They would be able to take a piece of the frame with the original paint on it and match it pretty closely with a color sampling computer. Buy a quart of the paint and take it to a bicycle frame sprayer or DIY. At least one shop in my town will give you the custom color in regular spray cans. Powder coating shops usually have a pretty good range of colors too. No idea about the cost of chroming.

Thanks chaps really helpful. I’ve taken it apart and seem to have all the bits….it’s an interesting bike with seven speeds…..ill try to source spares and get it back to original as far as I can. The wheels are an alloy I think…..any idea would be helpful…

powder coating might be another option, although as it involves heat input if there are any unvented frame tubes you may have to drill them to allow expanding air to escape

Had mine sandblasted and powder coated.
The Job was done bij Sir Pete’s bicycle shop in Groningen (NL) for € 150 euro. http://www.sir-pete.com Only thing I had to do was take the AM7 apart and rebuild it. The result is awesome (imho). You can see a few pics here. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B1glxh2ys3BeRV9XejlTNG81WHc
