I’ve recently bought an Automatic from the Moulton list.
It’s surprisingly responsive (more so than my other 3 vintage Moultons) and the Duomatic hub is great fun once you get the hang of it.
Any info about Automatics would be appreciated.
I know that they are relatively rare bikes which were only made in 1966.
Presumably they proved unpopular and that’s why production only lasted one year.
Does anyone know how many were built?
The hub is marked H which is 1965.
I’ve been told that the rear forks are the strongest and best designed of all the series one rear forks and that the same design was used on “S” models if equipped with series one rear forks.
I’ve also been told that it was made at BoA at what is now Anthony Best Dynamics.
The frame is brazed and has a rotated seat tube which I believe is a feature of all Automatics.
    The frame number if 01618.
I’ve been told that the same typeface was also used for the “S2 range machines.
Any info on Automatics would be appreciated.
    Alex
