Having acquired a few Moultons now (2 x space frames and 4 x F frames) the question of to efficiently store them in the garage has arisen.

The most efficient way to store them in my garage is to use those brackets that hold the bicycle vertically by the front wheel. Will this way of suspending them cause any damage to the suspension?

You could always store some in the house.

I notice this very reasonable question was also posted on the much-maligned Yahoo Group. If anyone wonders why that group manages to flourish in comparison with this forum, they could compare the intelligent responses it earned there with the baffled muttering it earned here.

Very intelligent observation from Zelanda, it is worth thinking about it. The question that has done Steven is reasonable. The responses received? ……………….?

    Sorry for my English

The question was about the possible damage to the suspension !
I have 4 F’s hanging in a small space aided by folding pedals – no damage to the suspension to date. In the garage too.
I do know a Moultoneer in Glos. with a collection of 80 bikes in the 2 bedrooms. No wife though ! Both seemed to have the right priorities

I am sorry that my misjudged light-hearted friendliness has caused offence to some people. I have now deleted my reply. Unfortunately I have only this evening paid another year’s membership fee, so I will have to be part of the MBC for another year, regardless of my suitability.

Paul, seriously, 80 in two bedrooms? Have you seen them?
    Must be big bedrooms.

I found your light-hearted friendliness amusing and certainly not misjudged.
I hope you stay in the Club.

I have a f-frame that hung upside down by the wheels using rafter hooks for several months. Another friend had an AM7 and an old Standard hanging by the back wheels. Is this bad?

Hi, Regarding the bloke in Glorious Gloucestershire with the 80 bikes in 2 bedrooms, I’m in the beautiful Cotswolds rather often so I’d like to know where his house is exactly. I remember in one episode of ‘Fat Man in Wilts’ the Fat Man was at a parson’s house which was completely packed out with far more than just 80 bikes, including Moultons, and a wife. On the same trip the Fat Man was at the Moulton factory in BoA and had a go on a Moulton bike around the yard there.

It’s not a good idea to hang Moultons by their wheels without putting the rear suspension into compression – for example with an elastic luggage strap.
With both, the F-frames and the Spaceframes, the rear suspension elements have a rubber-to-metal bond in their construction. These bonds need to be in compression all the time. Hanging them with their wheels off the ground or upside down by their wheels, puts these bonds into tension. The rubber may de-bond from the metal. This doesn’t apply to Mk 3s, where there is no rubber/metal bond in the squashball.
