I think it might be fun to have a group for this so we can discuss planned brevet and chat a bit about our longer rides on our Moultons.

Probably not a group unless the other members of the Open Discussion Group want us to dicuss our problems in private. This topic may be OK as it is.

    Good idea Martyn!

Are any Moultoneers considering either of the two “big ones” in 2012 – 1001 Miglia Italia (1600km) or the Mille Alba, a mid-summer 1000km in Scotland?

I’m looking forward to 2012 on my new TSR 30. I did about 2800km of Brevets in 2011 on my AM7 (with Capreo 9 speed), so it will be good to have a wide range of gears and index shifting.

The Mille Alba sounds great but too much for me and not just the highland midges.

I’m very happy with the TSR30 gear range. Even on reasonable climbs that don’t need the really low gears that feeling of “several more lower ones to go” is very comfortable.

We did a Xmas 50 yesterday on the tandem the second half with 9 gears (middle ring only) due to a cable breakage. Easy enough for a short distance on local roads I know very well with an 11-32 cassette but I wouldn’t fancy ploughing on into unknown territory without the granny ring. Perhaps I should carry spare gear cable for the TSR as the 11-25 would be a bit limited locked in middle ring.

Cables are so light and compact that they always seem to me like a sensible spare to carry. Although I’m not quite so sure if there’s a neat way to cut them to length on the road?
