hi im new to the forum but not to Moultons at the moment i have a green 65 deluxe which i am pondering wether to restore or modernise (new rims modern crank drop bars etc )
i was wondering is it poss to convert to a derailer system or is that to much work as i know there is only 100 or so mm and i dont really want to spoil the rear forks
    hope you can help

I have looked at this but have not done it yet – there are a couple of problems (that can be overcome) that you need to consider. First is finding a short dérailleur that will fit – you can hang them from the rear spindle, and plenty of people have done this, but the factory brazed on a bracket further up the fork for the ‘Speed’ models. Unless your bike is perfect the rear forks are not that valuable and this might be worth doing. The second is gearing, you will have to find a suitable high range gear set – the factory have supplied as high as 9 tooth cassettes on 17″ wheel bikes and you will (probably) have a 16″ wheel! This can be solved but costs. Then the hub will have to be fitted into the fork and that will require spreading.

Probably worth checking out Flickr and the like for pictures of Moultons that have been done.

Hells teeth, Ken! $250?! For my £155 I’d want the rest of the bike attached and in good condition!

http://tinyurl.com/9vog9xc – I know it is not a Mk2 but it has a lot more useful stuff on it!

At that price, Ken, I’m surprised that some Moulton entrepreneurs aren’t stripping bikes and exporting the bits to the USA.

Lol… I wonder who got stuck paying $250.00 for those forks? Glad it wasn’t me!
