I have an APB of production date supposedly between 1994 and 1999. It had the misalignment on the rear fork. I bought it 2nd hand but nearly unused, and so the pre-owner did not care to fix it.
In my case, the rim did not run in the center of the fork but about 1 cm to the left. As a result, I had to place the axle a little bit across into the dropout. This worked out but neither brake nor transmission could be adjusted perfectly. No matter how I adjusted the derailleur hanger gears did not work precisely or could not be inserted.
I finally found out that the reason for this misalignment was not a problem with the fork but a wrongly spoked rim. Today, I got it back from my local bike shop where I had the rim built up new. It now runs perfectly in the center of the fork, and no more problems with brakes and gears.
The tricky part here was not to get the rim fixed but to find out what the actual problem was.
I hope my experience will be useful to other APB owners .
