    Hi,

I got a new Cone model, and the front end continues to rattle/chatter constantly. This is on normal tar town roads.

Went over everything as best as I can to pin point exactly where, but possibly the brake or the head tube area.

I previously had the same problem with a TRS30 from new, along with a creaking bottom bracket area when you put a bit of effort down. Passed it on, was too annoying in the end.

My 60 model, not quite as much rattling/chatter. Mainly creaking when you put a bit of effort in from the bottom bracket area. Passed it on, was to annoying in the end.

Any ideas/similar problems resolved? Do they all rattle/chatter constantly or do people enjoy a fairly silent ride?

I am asking because my shand bahookie single speed bike has toured tens of thousands of miles and not a chirp still.

    Thanks,

    Colin

    Hi Colin,

I had a similar issue which I partly fixed on my TSR9.

I was convinced that the main rattle came from the suspension or brakes, and I spent ages bouncing it on the floor and tightening bits, but in the end I fixed 80% of it by removing the cheap bell that the supplier had added as a freebie.

There is a still a rattle but much less intrusive now, and I think that I just dont notice it.

    Rgds,

    Cameron

All mine (AM, TSR, NS) are silent. In my experience it can be very difficult to identify where the rattle is actually coming from, I was convinced a rattle on my AM 7 was from the front, but it turned out the bottle cage on the seat post had loosened. Are the spokes correctly tightened? Anyone who tightens them by feel and is unfamiliar with small wheels may leave them with insufficient tension.

Thank you Cameron and Mark for the replies.

The first Cone model was swapped out my Moulton. I only covered 10 miles on it. The rear end sounded like a creaking arm chair. The replacement Cone has the rattling front end. Both were new, factory built, tested etc.

My friend is not too shabby with bikes, he throws himself down the mountain bike tracks at Ft William.

We checked everything we could with in reason. You know your clutching when its tome to remove the spoke reflectors.

Moulton were excellent, but the nuclear option was taken and the first one swapped out then the replacement returned.

Disappointing in that it was going to be my touring option for a few years, but not now.

I need to try a demo one to compare it with my experience or if anyone does not mind me catching up at some point to try there one then that would be lovely.

    Thanks,

    Colin

My TSR doesn’t rattle at all. Are the leading link bolts nipped up enough to pinch the washers?

An F-frame, on the other hand, is a machine for converting road imperfections into noise!

My TSR also rattles..beginning to wonder whether it is the spring vibrating against the inside of the headtube?

If it’s the spring, a thicker coat of grease should shut it up.
