I use my ’65 Standard most days for shopping – it has replaced a horrid Raleigh/Elswick Safeway. The main problem is I usually get two bags of groceries and used to carry one in each of my panniers. Now I have just a smallish rear bike bag that only holds one lot of shopping so I end up carrying the other on my bars. I thought of commissioning a one-off basket from a maker on Norwich market (my son lives in the city). Alternatively I considered ‘borrowing’ a wire basket from Tesco as that is the kind of size I need. So has anyone a cheap and cheerful solution to this very mundane, but practical problem?

I commissioned a pair of baskets for my bike(s) front and rear for just the same job. They worked extremely well so I made up racks for my APB as well…I could not do without them! worked out at about £25 per basket.

Thanks John, absolutely what I need. Could you put me in touch with the supplier, or alternatively let me have the measurements? Looks really good!

The APB baskets came from halfords….I made the racks to fit. The other one on the f frame I had a damaged original which the guy copied and guestimated an inch all round for the rear. If you let the basket maker have a template of the rack base they should be able to work from that. 01525 210834 was the guys phone number, he lives in Leighton Buzzard

Thanks John, much appreciated. Just a little story to keep you amused: I was doing one of my regular shopping runs into town the other day – I have done so for many years on a variety of machines – when a young lad on one of these bikes where their knees come above their heads, took one look at the Moulton and said, “I like your bike, it’s way fast!” So the local youth approve of Moultons – can’t be bad! If only they could see that bikes aren’t just for doing stunts and can actually go places……
