    Hi,

I read this post and decided to try fixing a couple of broken ones I have. After cleaning the area, I used a very good CA glue and clamped the part over night. Appears to be holding very nicely with a good solid bond. I’ve used this method on different metal to rubber applications before and had good success. I’ve not tested this on a a bike yet though… has anyone else tried anything similar to this?

The bonded rubber block uses tried and well tested engineering…but these bikes can be fifty years old?..I sometimes think we forget that?
Ian’s solution sounds good and I know JB has another adhesive that works in practice….These blocks dont present too much of a problem ?…ken

Right Ken. Modern adheasives like CA (super) glue have come a long way. They work very well on rubber and plastic products too… however, not all rubber and plastic. I have run into a few that simply won’t bond.

I’ve been trying to break one of the rubber suspension blocks that I repaired and it is holding strong. I think CE glue is a good choice for this. From my experinece, the surfaces need to be very clean and clamped tightly together for desired results. I’ve tried very hard to break this back apart and I can’t do it. Good luck!

I use a product called “Extreme Power” that is sold through stores in the USA called Hobby Lobby. Here is a link to this product… you can order online: http://shop.hobbylobby.com/store/item.aspx?ItemId=174916

I use the thick version, but it’s also available in meduim and thin as well.

I am sure that these modern superglue products are up to the job because many years ago I had a rubber bonnet-strap on my mini moke which snapped around the mount…I glued it using superglue and it lasted under great tension for decades, in fact it never broke!..in fact it snapped somewhere else…ken
