    Hi,
I have my Moulton Deluxe from when I was 13yrs old. I would love it to be renovated & I am more than willing to give a helping hand but really dont know where to start !
A good engineering friend had offered but that’s 4 years ago now & I don’t think it’s going to happen. I would love to attend one of the rides before I get too old !
Does anyone know if there is someone in the North West that would renovate it for me ?
    Thanks Sue

There are lots of useful guides online but you will need a couple of special tools (a very long Philips no.2 screwdriver and a decent lockring spanner being the main ones) and a lot of Plus Gas. It’s more about patience and care than anything else. I have done several, including one that had lived out in the rain, and never needed to drill anything out. If you have a set of spanners, why not have a go?

    Hi Tom,

    Thank you for your email.
I have contacted a place in St Helens who have offered to take a look at it.

Maybe I can get back to you if it doesn’t work out ? Have you restored one yourself?

    Thanks Sue

    Hi sue,

Thanks for your message. Yes, I have restored many Moultons, some rescued from skips.. Just let me know if you need some help. You might find most bike shops don’t have a clue about the suspension or the 4 speed hubs.. Hopefully they might be familiar with them.

    Best wishes

    Tom

    Hi Tom,

Well I eventually took the bike to St Helens & the guy had a go but yes he felt it was beyond repair ? He mentioned a problem with the suspension (as you had predicted!) It’s now in pieces….I’m wondering if I send you some photos you may have an idea whether it’s salvageable or to sell for part’s.

    Thanks very much
    Sue

The suspension is no problem. Only serious frame failure is. I have just put together a set of M4 front forks that did not move AT ALL when I got the bike, the spring having rusted solidly to the inner steerer. The rear pivot also took over a week to remove.

It is back together and working perfectly with no new parts except the rear pivot.
