    Hi all,

I’d like to get a SST with a Rohloff hub and I’m looking for the best option to start with.
If I get a SST Alfine, would the switch from Alfine to Rohloff be just plug and play?

    Thanks in advance!

    NO !

The Rohloff has two wires to control it (one to go up into the gears, the other to go down).

Then the Rohloff cables must have some play (they must not be under tension) and have a full housing, while the Alfine unique cable is like a derailleur cable under tension and with partial housing.

Gear indexing of the Rohloff is inside the hub, while for the Alfine it is in the rapid fire lever (again like with a derailleur).

Then the Alfine 11 has his cable on the right side like a derailleur while the two cables of the Rohloff ate on the left side.

Last point, the anti torque plate of the Rohloff is on the lest side too and different from the one of the Alfine (there are several types of anti torque plate depending of the dropout type).

So, starting from an Alfine model won’t really help compared starting from a derailleur model.

If you do not want to install the Rohloff yourself, there is an expert in mounting Rohloff in Brompton and Moulton in Glasgow: Kinetics.
