    Hi all,

Popped out for a ride on molly today and was visited by the puncture fairy. On inspection it was the side wall that had failed allowing the tube to herniate and blow. I’m a bit ponked by this as these tyres have less than 200 miles on them and have not been abused.

However every cloud and all that. St John Street cycles are currently doing 32-349 (16 x 11/4″)Schwalbe Kojaks for £12.99 each.

I always carry a small can of foam puncture repair. I’ts not designed for large holes but it has got me home on a couple of occasions. Best price £2.99 from Decathlon.
I was persuaded once to use tyre liners but kept on getting punctures, it turned out that the liner overlap was causing the problem !
How about Schwable Marathon Plus ? They have built in puncture protection.

    Thanks for the replies,

I’ve decided to give the Kojaks another chance, I have a pair of Nutraks in reserve should the Kojaks prove unreliable.

HI. Any advice on which inner tubes suit the 17″ Kojaks for my AM7? Was wondering if 16″ tubes would still be okay to use on the 17″ rim as 17″ tubes seem a lot harder to find. I am in an isolated area of Australia so the local bike shop only carries standard goos.
    Cheers

This Schwalbe tube fits 17″ (369) tyres: SV5 inner tube 40-355-37-400 Presta valve.
    Available from: http://www.wrhpv.com/ukshop/tubes/index.html
in the UK, they do mail order.

    Hi Les
The side wall shouldn’t fail after only 200 miles.
Is a brake block rubbing against the tyre as well as the rim?

Hi Alexander, Yes I thought of that and no they have loads of clearance. Just must have been a defective tyre. I changed the rear and was visited by the puncture fairy again but that was down to a pyrocanthus thorn from by the track I use to work.

    Thanks for the replies

Hmm. I put a pair of Kojaks on my TSR back in September and had exactly the same experience with the rear suffering sidewall failure after 200-300 miles.
Schwalbe reckoned it was either brake rub (It’s a coaster brake) or incorrectly fitted. It’s the first tyre that’s gone like that in over 30 years.
