    Hi ,

I have just bought a De Luxe and I am a bit puzzled by the serial number which looks like 65:6:4
    Nothing else.
It gas a brazed rear carrier strut and the cross bar is brazed to the main beam, which I thought was only done after Raleigh took over.
    The hub is stamped 65.
Can anyone give me a bit of background on the origins of this bike please?

Can you post a picture of the number?

    Hi Ian,

    How do I do that?

That may be a non-standard serial number, an exact date, not a year/week/bike frame.
As for the brazing construction perhaps it was an experimental method of construction and the frame released into the field alongside the conventional assemblies, in 1965 they could sell every bike the factories could build, why scrap a usable frame?

    Is this a special bike?
