Hi there all. I have been renovating the 4 speed hub on my 65 deluxe and was hoping to replace the bearings but I don’t seem to be able to locate caged 1/4 inch bearings with 8 balls. Any ideas or suggestions?
I wondered about buying loose balls and prying open the existing cage but not sure if that is a smart idea or not.
    Cheers for any suggestions
    Regards Michael

I spoke to sean marsh on fb, he’s probably refurbished more fw’s than most have had hot dinners.his advice is prise open the cage and fit new balls

Definitely save the old cages. They are tough and can be cleaned out and refilled many times (unlike Sachs retainers, which can rarely be refilled as they will fail to retain some balls after their first turn of service in a hub).

Also remember to put them in the correct way – ugly side out!
