    Hello

Would Schwalbe HS140 Rigid 14 x 1/38 tyres (37-288) be suitable for my recently acquired 1966 Super 4 bike? I am 6’2 & 13 stone but the load limit on each tyre specifies 40kg so will this be OK?

    Thank you

    Nick

    Hi Nick
The ones on mine are 37-298.

I don’t know about the load limit of the tyres but be mindful that the Super 4 was designed around the average-sized woman in the sixties’ who was about 5 feet 3 inches tall and probably weighed under 9 stones.

    Thanks Alex, much appreciated.

Wonder if I’ve bought the wrong Moultonfor me then? Bit frustrating as lots of ££s & really like it, hmmm!!

    Hi Nick
If you like it that’s the main thing. I suppose a lot depends on riding style. Some people prefer riding with a very bent knee on the maximum downward stroke whilst others prefer a slightly bent knee.
I think when they first came out the advertising blurb stated that they were suitable for someone up to 5 10.

    Thanks again Alex.

Have spoken to the owner of a Deluxe & am now thinking about selling the Super 4, taking the hit & buying a Deluxe or Standard with 16″ wheels instead. Need to sleep on it!

If anyone knows of one then please let me know, thank you.

    Hi Nick
You may have to wait a while to get a good one but there’s no shortage and they will come up.
The Classified List here can as good a place to buy as any.
There are lots of Deluxes and Standards but there are also rarer models like Majors, Stowaways and Automatics.
If you haven’t already done so I suggest you go into the Bicycle Hub site under Moulton Links (above right) which gives good advice on what to look out for.
