hello again, sorry to keep posting – there’s just a lot I don’t know!
I wonder if anyone can tell me what the strange additional bits of metal are on the forks of my 1964 Moulton. I’ve never seen it on any of the bikes listed on ebay or anywhere. There is one on the rear fork and the front fork. They are integral to the fork, and they are the same side of the bike. They are rectangles of about 2cm by 4cm, and they have a rectangular hole in them. They are positioned at 90 degrees to the fork. It is as if you could thread a long bike chain right through both the wheels and through these pieces of metal to secure the bike. Can anyone tell me what they are for? Many thanks for your help.

    Can you post a picture?

One thought is that they maybe for a fork lock?

Ah ha! They look totally different to that, but I think may serve the same purpose. I’ll try and take a pic later on.

Hi, That’s a bracket for a tyre-sidewall driven lighting dynamo. Slightly differing brackets like this are common on F-frame rear forks.

Thank you William. I have one on the front fork as well.

The tyre sidewall driven dynamo is probably the most energy sapping invention known to cycling since the headwind, an RSW16 with both tyres at half pressure is a paragon of virtue in a comparison.
If you must have a dynamo go for a Sturmey GH6 dynohub or a modern replacement such as a Shimano front wheel dynohub.
