Moultons On The Move ~ Calendar for 2021

Two Moultons on the Move!!

The Club’s 2020 Calendar, honouring Alex Moulton in his Centenary Year, was well received by Club Members. Because Covid-19 forced the cancellation of both 2020  events at Bradford on Avon, the Club Committee voted to fund a Calendar for 2021. The theme is Moultons On The Move.

We need your digital images of Moultons whilst on a ride. Whether that's resting at a cafe or landmark, fully loaded with bags on a high mountain pass, on your own, or in a group of Moultoneers.

Please email your image files to Mark Taylor at markt6356@gmail.com.  Closing date is Friday 25th September 2020.  The committee will then select the most appropriate images for the calendar during our September committee meeting.

We guarantee that all photos will be looked at but only some will be chosen for the calendar. Some of the photos may appear in the magazine.

The finished calendar will be delivered together with your regular club magazine in November 2020.

Please ensure all photos which are sent in:

  • feature at least one Moulton bicycle,
  • are clear and in focus when printed at A5 size,
  • are preferably in high resolution,
  • shot in landscape orientation and
  • are suitable for viewing by all ages.

Please note! By sending your photographs you are permitting The Moulton Bicycle Club free use of those images in your club’s publications.

We look forward to receiving your pics!

Cancellation of BoA 2020

Sad news; in this year of all years – Alex Moulton's Centenary Year - your Committee has reluctantly, but unanimously, voted to cancel our September meeting at Bradford on Avon this year.

Your Club has a ‘duty of care’ to its Members and others. It must not be the unwitting cause of any new Covid-19 outbreak within its Members or anyone in the Moulton Bicycle Company or the Alex Moulton Charitable Trust.

Current social distancing regulations will make it difficult for us to have our normal Saturday evening, Club sit-down meal or take part in the Moulton Parts Bring & Buy, the Raffle, Teas, Coffees, Cakes and general social interaction over the weekend. Tours of the Hall will not take place.

No one can be certain that local accommodation will be available in early September and whether pubs and restaurants will be open for business. (This presumes our government will permit mass gatherings by then.)

Travel restrictions in September, both UK and international, may still restrict Members’ arrival from abroad.

Many of our more senior members fall into the most vulnerable category, so probably will be shielding and will not be able to attend.

Hired-in Toilets and Showers would need to be sanitised after each person’s use. The logistics of ensuring 100% virus-free would be difficult to organise.

Finally, the Club’s public liability insurance excludes any claims caused by an infectious disease, such as Covid-19.

In light of the above considerations, your Committee after much discussion (at a Zoom meeting June 3rd) voted to cancel the scheduled September event in 2020. We very much hope that we will be able to resume our meetings in 2021.

Until then, stay healthy and happy, and enjoy riding your Moulton!

Join us in a Moulton Ride Around The World!

If you're suffering from Cabin Fever and can get out on your Moulton, please commemorate the Centenary of Alex Moulton's birthday on 9th April this year. 60 years ago Alex Moulton dedicated much of his life to developing a new type of bicycle. The much beloved F frame bicycle was the result. 20 years later, the Space-frame. The rest is history.

We invite Moulton owners around the World, at this socially challenging time, to get out on your Moulton to celebrate his bicycle achievements. Whether that's just a quick cycle along your road & back, on your own or with another Moulton rider (properly Covid 19-distanced)!

Please make the time to get out on your Moulton during some part of Thursday 9th April (providing it is safe), to recognise, acknowledge and respect the work and achievement of Alex Moulton.

Please take a photo of yourself and your bike, so you can share your day with the other Moulton riders around the world by posting it on Facebook > The Moulton Bicycle.

Whether you are in Australia, Asia, Europe, America or anywhere in-between, please make time to ride your bike in memory of Alex Moulton.

If ALL club members get out for a ride on that day you will be able to say you were part of the “Moulton Around The World Ride”.

Whatever you are able to do on the day, please get a photo and put it up on Facebook to share your moment with the other Moulton riders around the world.

If you are not a Facebook user speak with you friends and relatives who are and get them to upload your photos or get them to help you set up a Facebook account (all FREE) from your smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer.

Please get you images on Facebook on the day or soon after so the images are all together on the page.

PS - I hope you enjoyed this year's calendar of Alex Moulton, we are planning to make another calendar for 2021 – details in the next club magazine.

April Weekend Meetings Cancelled !!

Sadly, due to the current Coronavirus situation; our UK government’s guidance, your committee’s responsibility and common sense, we have cancelled our meeting on 4th & 5th April this year at BoA.

There are no plans to re-schedule this event. The next club weekend event at Bradford on Avon will be on 12th & 13th September.

This would be bad in any year but especially so in the centenary year. We are very sorry for the disappointment and any inconvenience thus caused.

If you could please take a ride on your Moulton during Thursday April 9th to commemorate Alex Moulton's 100th birthday as your part in the 'Moulton Ride Around The World' but only if you consider it is appropriate and safe to go out.

Please keep yourself and your family safe, follow your government’s guidelines.

At the time of writing this, Saturday 4th April is as planned & printed in our magazine. However this may change due to circumstances way beyond our control.
